Nisa Petiwala - Student Leader & Advocate
I am a student at Dubai American Academy pursuing the International Baccalaureate Career Programme (IBCP) with HL English, SL Computer Science, SL Business Management, and SL Math AI. My academic journey is complemented by journalism electives and specialized courses including a Dar Research Affiliate of MIT internship program on Artificial Intelligence in Urban Development and a comprehensive web development internship. This multidisciplinary approach reflects my passion for combining technology, storytelling, and social impact.
My work has been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the Best Research Award at Dubai Science and Economics Fair 2024 for developing an IoT-based adaptive learning system for dyslexic students, the Youth Journalism Award for sustainability-focused journalism, and the Best Poster Award at Dubai Science Fair 2025 for my research on Fake News Detection using Deep Learning. As Newsletter Lead for the Eco-Committee, I demonstrated strong literacy, communication, and leadership skills by coordinating student writers and ensuring timely delivery of environmental awareness content.
I am the founder of two innovative platforms: readease.co, an AI-powered accessible learning platform for dyslexic learners featuring audio/video explanations and interactive modules; and wellmind.live, an AI-driven mental health chatbot providing CBT-based support and personalized coping strategies. These projects embody my commitment to using technology to create inclusive, accessible solutions that address real-world challenges. Through leadership roles including President of The Student Voice newspaper, Co-Head of Media for BridgeBot robotics, and Speech Editor for TEDxYouthDAA, I continue to amplify voices, foster innovation, and drive meaningful community impact.
